‏When I started working on this piece, the model’s appearance and character reminded me of the mythological god Pan (also known as the god of shepherds and flocks, of rustic music and the bringer of the spring). ‏Among his many traits, Pan is, of course, very well known for having a strong attraction to nymphs.

I felt that my model was easily distracted by the women around him, and perhaps disturbed by my presence…

This life size sculpture is the finished work in clay, after almost a year since its inception and a moment before casting.

Through fun brain- storming that took about a week, with the highly creative owners of the Bar, we were able to conceptualize the idea of the drawing. It took another week to execute the actual drawing, featuring Alex the cook. The work was made with only white chalk, no fixative, with part of the idea being that it would be worn away over time- a true temporary art…

The drawing was made with the help of reference photos. The idea behind the work was to create a window into Alex’s world at the Carpaccio Bar, giving the sensation of a moment in time, an illusion of his daydreaming while working.
